How to give digital edge to category managers
In 2019, The Smart Cube sought to enhance its sales in the competitive procurement consulting market with a unique digital solution. The goal was to consolidate 15 years of knowledge, reports, and digital tools into a single repository that could be showcased to prospects, demonstrating The Smart Cube's capabilities and securing buy-ins from stakeholders.
I led the visual design and user experience journey for this online portal as the Senior UX Designer. Our small team of two used Adobe XD, Zoom, and Google Workspace to complete the project within 8 weeks, followed by semi-annual updates ever since.
Problem
Create an engaging and easy-to-navigate portal for data and information, distinct from typical B2B platforms. Develop a modular visual structure for reports, insights, commodity prices, blogs, thought leadership, and analytical tools, personalized based on usage algorithms.
Solution
Developed the site's data architecture.
Introduced a tile scroll approach for data.
Focused on key category groupings aligned with industry standards.
Designed category dashboards as single access points linking to thousands of reports, insights, trends, and cost drivers.
Integrated third-party network reports (e.g., CASME, Spend Matters).
Simplified the user journey for the interactive sourcing destinations tool.
Added a feature for requesting “Custom Intelligence” for detailed, unique problem-solving, generating additional revenue.
